Personal Approach to Teaching

The defining principle of my work as the Head of Acting and Directing in the Department of Theatre at Michigan State University is to enhance the MSU student's theatrical education. This has been achieved by mixing professional standards and connections with a strong educational base. Numerous achievements in curriculum, artistry, outreach and scholarship demonstrate the success of this mission throughout my time here. Changes have included the creation of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Theatre minor, a retooled Master of Fine Arts degree that prepares professional actors as well as future academicians, residencies with Stratford Festival, collaborations with professional theatres and numerous guest directors all combine to enhance the theatrical education at MSU.
